30 August 2018

We are pleased to introduce Pauline Soulsby, VH Bio’s Sales and Purchasing Manager! Hear more about her role at VH Bio, her background and her interests in this Q&A:

Describe what your job entails.

All sales orders processing – from receipt to dispatch. Liaising with customers on special requirements or problems.  Ordering and replenishing of stock from our suppliers.  Importing and exporting goods and machinery and liaising with carriers.  Troubleshooting customer problems or issues within the sales and purchasing departments.

What is your career and/or education background?

General Secondary Education, then two years at College studying accounts, business studies, commerce, English language, Northern counties typing and shorthand (it was a long time ago).  My first job in accounts was for Mason Pittendrigh the architects, then depot manager for Rom Ltd, office manager for ASL Electricals and finally I’ve spent last 18 years with VH Bio.

What is your favourite part of the job?

Going home! (only joking). Resolving problems to a good and beneficial conclusion for all concerned.

In your opinion, what is the greatest advancement in the history of science?

DNA Forensics… A fascinating – and at the time – major advancement in criminal justice cases as well as a powerful tool for determining parentage.

When you were younger, what did you want to be when you grew up?

Court Stenographer.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

Dog walking, Pilates and Yoga.

If you could be any animal, what you be and why?

My baby Bumble because she is the cutest and the most spoilt dog in the world!

What was the first car you owned?

A bright yellow mini metro (embarrassingly). It had black fur seat covers too.

Describe your perfect weekend.

Family do’s – absolute bedlam but brilliant – always best when they’re not at my house…

What annoys you?

*Censored*

If you were king or queen for a day, what one law would you change or introduce?

*Censored*

If you had to eat one meal, every day for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Sunday Dinner …….nobody ever got sick of beef, Yorkshire puddings and mashed potato!

If you were stuck on an island what three things would you bring?

My dogs Neno, Hunny and Bumble.

What is the first concert you attended?

1975 Showaddywaddy at the City Hall in Newcastle. I was thrown back 3 rows by a bouncer because I was trying to get to Dave Bartram!

5 famous people – dead or alive – that you would invite to a dinner party?

Donald Trump – Just for the craic.

John Lennon – Probably to wind up Donald Trump.

Emmeline Pankhurst – Because I wrote my thesis on her in College 40 years ago.

Tom Hardy – he’s just absolutely gorgeous.

Dawn French – I think she’s hilarious and you always need humour at a dinner party (well you would at this one).

As you can tell, Pauline has quite a sense of humour, so we apologise for censoring some of her answers. Get in touch if you’re far too curious about what she said…!

Stay tuned for our next Q&A with James Briggs, VH Bio’s Sales & Marketing Manager for our Molecular Biology range products.
